hi  everyone....we have windows server 2003 r2 primary domain controller , windows server 2008 r2 additional domain controller. part of server maintenance reboot primary domain controller. dhcp configured on primary dc. we need reboot 1 of dc's. understand, dc's redundant. is, rebooting 1 shouldn't affect others. had questions... 1.as dhcp configured on 1 dc effect users log in 2. happens users had logged in using dc1, e.g. if trying access resources ad controlled, such ntfs share? 3. rebooting dc1 not idea if fsmo role holder? if so, one? i'm particularly thinking pdc emulator. 1. users able login, if ip addresses before dc reboot.  2. nothing happens, long have secondary dc @ users' dns servers list. shares resides on rebooting controller unavailible of course. 3. can reboot server fsmo roles: 4 of them used , pdc emulator can offline time. users changed password have problems log-in, while pdc emulator offline. can read more here:  http://blogs.

ok, i'm fed this. we're in server 2008r2 domain function @ 2003 level. i've run through bitlock drive encryption guide , have far gotten pc write tpm recovery key (attribute mstpmownerinformation). i've completed steps still can't get  bitlocker info tobackup adds. missing something? policies set have attributes backed adds within gp i've changed password using  manage-bde , still nothing.  viewer has been installed. attribute doesn't filter when i look @ writable attributes on object in question. i'm assuming should in list no? if get this working or direct me better great.   another thing noticed the are no attributes labelled in adds msfve-recoverypassword, msfve-recoveryguid ormsfve-recoveryinformation. have removed filters , there still nothing. suspect why there no information being backed bitlocker portion. know why attribute not in object attributes? should in list if remove filters.

hi, i wish decide server applies group policies certain pcs. we college two separate physical sites. our larger main site has pdc , site has les 10 connection it. our other satellite site has a backup dc adsl connection (approx 10mbps download/1.5mbps upload). pdc site replicates on backup dc our satellite site. e.g. ad, gpos, dfs etc.. i want pcs @ our satellite site take gpos local server @ site , not pdc @ our main site. reason being, because when user logs on first time @ the satellite site, not pull gpos down server.  i have done 'gpresult /r' in cmd line on 1 of pcs , know being taken pcd (it says being applied lying!). have upgraded new pcs @ the satellite site (as older pcs struggled most) , has sort of solved problem. however, is probably because of upload speed @ the satellite site - adsl line. so it possible to tell pcs @ the satellite site take gpos replicated backup dc @ site?? this question seems have been asked before here: http://social.tec

we use dell nx3000 series nas corporate file sharing.  contains 2 boot drives in raid 10 config (160 gb each) , 4 1 tb drives in raid 5 config.  the available space file sharing 3 tb.  need upgrade existing (4) 1 tb drives out of space , nas has 6 drive bays.   the plan pull existing 1 tb drives , replace them 4 (4) tb drives , keep in raid 5 config.  first backup 3 tb file sharing partition external source restore onto new drives.  take 3 12 tb of available storage.   my question how handle on windows side.  nas runs windows storage server standard sp2 (2008).   leave boot drives is.  question steps reconfigure disk partition using new drives?  attached screen shots of existing configuration.  help.   hi, if there misunderstanding please let me know: you replace 4x1tb raid5 on windows storage server 2008 4x4tb raid5. files backed external place , restore later. if 4x4tb disks connected computer without removing 4x1tb disks, little easier transfering files. curren

hi, when using robocopy's parameters /sl , /b together, robocopy won't create symlinks copy symlink's target instead. of course i'm concerned file symlinks, i've not seen directory symlinks working robocopy yet. assume have 2 folders 0 , 1, there file test.txt in folder 0 , symlink link.txt file. link created using mklink link.txt test.txt . i'm copying 0 1 using robocopy: robocopy 0 1 /sl /b robocopy create 2 identical files in 1. additionally, when run again above parameters, robocopy not skip link.txt reason "same", copy parts of it again reason "<mismatch c>". mean, actual data of file not copied again, bytes column in robocopies output 0, @ least flags copied. pretty anoying if use robocopy creating backup mirror option /a+:a , if backup mirror third party software tape backup program. program might rely on archive flag incremental backups , therefore backup symlinks again. however, want symlinks symlinks in b
