Windows 2012 CSV backup

in windows 2012, provider "microsoft csv shadow copy provider" introduced , backup requestor must use provider csv volume in order take application vss snapshot hyper-v vm.

my question is, in environment hardware provider available, how can take application hardware snapshot? confusion is, in order take hardware snapshot, need use hardware provider csv volume, however, in order take application consistent snapshot, need use microsoft csv shadow copy provider. how can use both 1 same csv volume?

based on understanding , hardware snapshot non-application consistent snapshot mentioned  .

you can contact hardware vendor to disable hardware vss provider use software vss.

"by default, dpm 2010 attempt use vss hardware provider take snapshots of hyper-v guests located on san. there may circumstances when might want dpm use in-box vss software provider instead of installed vss hardware provider san when doing hyper-v backups. may because hardware licensing has not yet been activated, or perhaps problems san (space considerations) etc. , prevents hyper-v backups getting done.


overcome add following key on hyper-v host(s) don't want dpm use hadware vss provider.

[software\microsoft\microsoft data protection manager\agent\usesystemsoftwareprovider]"
