  hello,   i have domain setup , have 2 computers in domain (basically doing moss dev , trying setup). during moss configuration tries add 1 of domain users local group on 1 of machines , fails. if try doing manually following error:   --------------------------- local users , groups --------------------------- the following error occurred while attempting save properties group wss_admin_wpg on computer mossweb: a member not added or removed local group because member not exist. --------------------------- ok   --------------------------- this after browse user , correctly displayed in add dialog. when hit ok or apply error pops up. can add them other local group, wss groups have issues.   any ideas?   hi bryant , based on research, typically error message "a member not added or removed local group because member not exist" may result varieties of incidents such duplicate sids. critical error may need re-install or newsid os.   by way, mean no domain

hi, i have 4 node cluster. notes running windows2008 r2sp1 datacenter. i created new volume/lun/server (running w08 r2sp1 std). 4 nodes listed preferred owners of new vm. , in fact new vm run on 4 node. the issue cluster disk of new vm mounts , runs on 3 of 4 nodes. when try mount cluster disk on fourth node following error: "error code: 0x80071398 operation failed because either specified cluster node not owner of group, or node not possible owner of group". any suggestions how troubleshoot issue? thanks, dcbb hi, it's csv not "move" fourth node in cluster. can move other csvs , forth node. >> did mean change owner of disk in csv? by way, please try evict fourth node , add see whether can resolve issue. i have setup new installation of wds on server 2008 r2 enterprise , have number of boot images loaded, including server 2008 (vista 32-bit) , 2008 r2 (win 7 64-bit).  seem work fine on of our dell computers.  have created boot image boot.wim file found on windows 7 32-bit installation dvd.  purpose of image ease addition of drivers our newest computers, yet remain 32-bit can used of older computers.  have win 7 boot image image deployment, , win 7 capture image capturing new custom installations. i have been searching google , bing days no avail trying find out why windows 7 boot image takes longer load on clients other boot images.  winpe images take no time @ (seconds), vista boot images take less minute, win 7 boot image can take ten fifteen minutes load.  have added few nic drivers computers we've tested with, it's unlikely it's driver issue.  slow point client (even core i7 machines) after image copied on network client ("windows copying files...").

hello, i fixing wsus server neglected year. there 30000+ approved updates when got there , every query timout. after messing around little able have wsus query of updates. removed superseded updates, unneeded language updates, , drivers. able to approved updates down ~150. most of computers worked fine , receieved of updates. 1 computer kept getting error 8024401f. read fix try "wsusutil reset" after did started getting timeout errors again. after playing more, found if stop "wsus service" wsus query fine without issues. start service again error: the wsus administration console has encountered unexpected error. may transient error; try restarting administration console. if error persists, <o:p></o:p> try removing persisted preferences console deleting wsus file under %appdata%\microsoft\mmc\. system.componentmodel.win32exception -- service did not respond start or control request in timely fashion <o:p></o:p> source syste

i lone wolf developer running hyper-v on legally-licensed server running windows enterprise 2008r2. have extremely limited research funding. since need evaluate windows 8.1 , windows phone development 1080p phone emulator, created virtual machine of windows 8.1 evaluation copy rtm on server. trying create software nokia lumia 1520 phone-tablet. everything in windows 8.1 virtual machine runs hyper-v on windows 2008r2, except 1 problem related phone development project. networking perfect, display perfect, there no other issues except "gotcha". problem appears windows phone sdk update 4, supports 1080p windows phone emulator . emulator supposed load it's own instance of windows 8.1 hyper-v virtual machine when debugging phone application visual studio 2012 express. emulator tries start it's own hyper-v session inside windows 8.1. in humble opinion, should possible (load windows 8.1 hyperv virtual machine inside "parent" virtual machine).

hello, i have problem ad cs on strictly secured computer. certsrv service running , no errors seen in event logs. ca console working fine, certificate templates console ok. problem clients cannot enroll certificates on dcom interface rpc server unavailable. ca using static port configured in component services. until recent security hardening worked fine. have changed group memberships. i troubleshoot myself. it seems dcom cannot start interface enrollment. i see detailed tracing log of dcom events might me troubleshoot. how enable generic dcom logging? or how enable ad cs detailed tracing? thank you. ondrej.     actually, reason ca dcom interface not starting first enrollee accesses tries enroll not member of users group on ca computer. although user member of ca dcom access group, needs member of users well. why? how trace dcom operation. another observation when dcom interface running, user can make withouth being users member, way assume should work alwyas.

i have exsisting 2003 dc. have brand new 2008 dc (which virtual machine.) did transfer fsmo roles 2003 server 2008 server. i have moved dns , dhcp services over. thing left on old dc moving files on new file server. (old dc file server) do need run adprep if transferred roles? do need seize fsmo roles on old dc? do need run dcpromo demote old dc? hi all using disk2vdm i have converted 2003 hyperv had hardware raid 1 volume. now trying p2v 2003 (non dc) server has 2 x 250 gb software mirror partitioned 2 drives c +d disk2vhd creates 2 drives when start vm hangs detect errors on d: , runs repair goes nowhere. if remove d drive boot off c ok. so tried p2v d drive see create 2 files xxxx0.vhd , xxxx1.vhd  different sizes !!!! gives , why? neither work as d data drive create new 1 in hyperv instance , copy data over, manually recreate shares etc  , go way if don't succeed or clever guys out there. thanks comments can throw way :) btw - forum not support of disk2vhd. however, disk2vhd free (you pay for). and, documented behavior 1 vhd per partition, not volume. you need repair server 2003 install , modify bootloader , boot driver proper disk. personally, install new server vm , migrate it.  in end far happier results.  or, download scvmm evaluation vhd , set environment (scvmm plus 1 hyper

i curious if knew of documentation or articles talk roles , services run on a single server. read article talking domain controllers , how under utilized used clients authenticate against, of time hardware practically sitting there doing nothing...but thats beacuse domain controller!!!  :p curious if things have changed , maybe need update thinking.  perhaps not critical of issue keep other services off domain controller, perhaps off load dhcp , dns domain controller or perhaps install wsus server on same box. trying find new best practices maximize hardware , not have build new virtual server every new service company wants me implement. just started working @ new company , trying clean environment bit.  upgrading servers 2012r2 , 95% virtualized.  keeping our primary domain controller own physical machine , backup dc virtualized. need see if still advised move fsmo roles around while well. advice appreciated. dns on every dc, dhcp can on dc rest mention shou

i have 5 sites manage , need create replicated folders using domain dfs on @ least 1 server on each site. (2008r2) my aim work out efficient (i.e. least work) of creating shares on each server , ensuring permissions consistent. at start there notionally 1 "master" share , other "satellite" servers connect bi-directionally central one. so if ensure when folders created on satellite servers administrators , system have ntfs full control, folders inherit permissions source folder, or need set permissions on each server? regards roga hi, dfs replication keep ntfs permission synchronize.  when setup dfs replication group, ask primary server. data , ntfs permissions follow data on primary server in initial replication. after initial replication finished, there no primary server anymore - change on ntfs permission replicated other targets.  if have feedback on our support, please send tnfsl@microsoft.com.

hello everyone, i have a single forest multiple domains . we have 5 domain controllers,some   of them are    server 2008 r2 , others   server 2012 r2(on installed dns server) i started upgrade dc 2008 r2 2012 r 2 , remove dns server dc 2008 r2. all zones in dns servers active directory - integrated zone. i found article : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc794727(v=ws.10).aspx ,  but not understand first 2 items. how remove dns server forest? thanks in advance, hi,    if zone in dns server ad integrated zone, dns zone can removed when demote dc. then can use remove roles wizard remove dns server role. if remove dns server role, must reconfigure dhcp scopes , dns clients resolved against dns server use suitable alternative. best regards, erin Windows Server  >
