Home drive mapping fails when using group policy preferences to map other drives
hi folks,
discovered peculiar issue today.
we have user has home drive defined in u: drive in active directory.
the location on dfs server.
when user has group policy preferences assigned map other drives (to different letters), u drive no longer maps (the other drives map successfully).
when group policy preferences drive maps removed, u drive returns.
the machines windows 7 sp1. uac enabled on machines, user not local administrator of machines.
update:
if user made administrator of machine, drives map correctly.
if uac switched off, user not local admin, u drive still not map, other drives. seems not uac related.
machine logs event id 1112 relating drive maps cse, "always wait network @ startup , logon" enabled on computer.
any ideas might issue?
suggestions welcome.
thank you.
hi martin,
so, after running logon trace (very handy!) found root cause.
and yes, first reply stated, issue prefs settings..
the issue admin had implemented (item level targeting) setting 1 of drive mappings, had selected drive letter option "use first available, starting at" option, instead of assigning drive letter.. when set letter, ad home drive maps.
why windows did not assign unused drive letter a,b, or t (the next available letter after departmental drives), , why worked when user assigned local admin rights, have no idea, and is threw me when troubleshooting initially.
anyway, im delighted have answer, friday :)
thanks!
