hello, i want see changing ntfs security properties on of file servers. came across couple documents on technet explained use “audit object access” option. tried set these technet documents guidline. what did - created new ou in our windows server 2008 r2 active directory. - created , linked new gpo new ou. - edit new gpo:        computer configuration/policies/windows settings/security settings/local policies/audit policy                defined policy “audit object access” success , failure checked. - put test file server in ou. - ran gpupdate /force. - checked if computer gpo applied (it was). - checked in local policy if settings applied (it was). on test file server - created temporary directory test. - went auditing tab of directory (properties/security/advanced/auditing). - added “everyone” “change permissions” successful , failed checked.              checked “apply auditing entries objects and/or containers within              container”

hello all, first time post sorry if not quite right. i working on contract school have introduced server 2008 r2 dc , moved slow , old server 2003 r2 box. far there have been issue have managed fix these. i have niggling little issue around old group policy (note these not set me). we have default domain policy , previous administrator in wisdom put lot of items in take quite time change, whilst on list of items tackle cannot spare time them @ time. currently group policy has 1 failing item. follows: internet explorer branding failed 26/03/2014 11:15:31 internet explorer branding failed due error listed below. specified procedure not found. additional information may have been logged. review policy events tab in console or application event log events between 26/03/2014 11:15:31 , 26/03/2014 11:15:31. i aware related changes made on how ie managed via group policy , ie 10 , onward has removed internet explorer maintenance

i’m setup 2 node hyper-v cluster equallogic san, i’ve got 4 quick questions   1)should create different lun each vm ? 2)should use pass-through disk? 3)would recommended   put os disks (the ide) vm’s on 1 lun (not pass-through)? 4)how heartbeat nic configured 1) can, in hyper-v version 2 (win2008 r2), not required.  instead can create 1 large lun , use cluster shared volumes (csvs). 2)  you can use pass-through disks disk-intensive vms.  the os of vm still vhd, example may want pass-through disk sql data , sql logs.  each pass-through disk need configured separate lun. 3)  i don't know if it's "recommended" per se, if san fault-tolerant, i'd put os disks on 1 big lun , configure csvs cluster. 4)  the heart-beat should nic on isolated network.  it uses tcp instead of udp so, less configuration , hassle required.  you may want go cluster configuration after building cluster , make sure nic want use heartbeats set highest priority intra-cluster

all, i setup printer server on server 2008.  works great, want correct 1 behavior. i have local printers , b on computer tcp/ip ports.  try add network printer , search directory.  directory, see printers c, d, e, , f.  can't install or b directory. this issue when connected terminal server.  printer main printer , gets mapped when connect.  if want print on printer b, have log out of ts, set printer b default, , log terminal services. i need ability print on printer b in both local system , in terminal server.  i'd able without logging out of ts. does know behavior set?  want allow network printers installed if local printer installed. i'm not sure if want change behavior of terminal server map local printers because have many branch offices , don't know how many local printers each office workstation has.  seems mapping several printers each workstation problematic.   thoughts? hmmmm. need have local printer still being shared , while sharing it. p

hi, all of machines hyper-v virtual machines. of virtual machines connected through private network virtual switch. i have 2 windows server 2008r2 domain controllers hold fsmo roles. i setted mapping drives policy , linked domain. disabled fast logon appropriate setting. the client have windows 8 enterprise oc. policy marked approved in client machine. the mapped drives location network share, appropriate permissions domain users. the mapping drives although aren't working. please advise. these mapping folders created in dfs manager. when i've created new network share, not in dfs manager, mapping working now! i asked create these folders in dfs manager , map them users. i tried run bat script mapping dfs sharing folders , says in cmd network path not found. so, ideas problem in dfs in client machine system not finding dfs share?? can still access these shares manually. just built new server, , wish run hyper-v on testing @ overseas office.  everytime install hyper-v (which works fine btw) server not shutdown or restart. during procedure, state, "shutting down" , follows black screen blinking cursor in upper left hand corner, , hangs @ point. the server xeon 3020 1.86ghz, 4gb ram, intel s3000ah server board, , dual 250gb in raid 1 sata's.  running 2008 enterprise.  latest drivers, latested bios, latest raid firmware. i removed hyper-v work around issue, i'd have run.  after hunting found nothing in event viewer, exception of server's shutdown unexpected messages. thoughts? i've not seen issue. still experiencing problem?   Windows Server  >  Hyper-V
