Do you need to run ADPREP if you already transferred FSMO roles from 2003 server to NEW 2008 server
i have exsisting 2003 dc. have brand new 2008 dc (which virtual machine.) did transfer fsmo roles 2003 server 2008 server. i have moved dns , dhcp services over. thing left on old dc moving files on new file server. (old dc file server)
do need run adprep if transferred roles?
do need seize fsmo roles on old dc?
do need run dcpromo demote old dc? (this server wiped clean else.)
or stop services on old dc , new 1 should take over?
thanks help.
1. not required, adprep needs run once in forest , domain , 2008 dc in place means schema extented 2008.
2. no need seize, have transferred fsmo roles 2008.
3. run dcpromo on old 2003 dc demote dc gracefully, if you're unsuccessful might want try remove server active directory forcefully (dcpromo /forceremoval) , need perform metadata cleanup.
