How can I enable FTP passthrough on a standalone domain controller that provides internet access to the domain?

i upgraded our server 2008 2012 few weeks ago, , of settings seemed have remained unchanged.  however, ftp protocol appears blocked or non-functional client computers (it functioned fine previous upgrade)  mention of problem have found converts ftp traffic http traffic , may allow one-way connection, yet say, wasn't problem in our previous server environment.  there setting i'm missing somewhere?

i've added ftp ports 20 , 21 both internally , externally to allow list on windows firewall.  also, when accessing ftp server, works well.

thanks help!

hope not mind adding own opinion dialog here. john added 2 cents , said not mention again, think worth mentioning.

trying increase security on wifi dual homing dc , directly exposing is, in opinion, bit reinforcing 1 wall of fort using materials removed opposite wall.

very close attention needs paid design, planning , implementation of network, services , components.

i caution against difference between consumer grade devices , business grade devices, when comes security (firewalls , wireless) , mission critical functionality.

also, because didn't know broken, doesn't mean wasn't broken.

best wishes
