Setting up Trust between different domain (companies)

i helping company issues.  currently has 2 separate businesses in different locations. both domains operating separately , within same forest…etc.

business #1 – domain name: company – running windows 2003 – domain , forest functional level “windows server 2003”

business #2 – domain name: companyab – running windows 2008 – domain , forest functional level “windows server 2008 r2”.

when previous person setup domain , network business #2 used ip address 192.168.1.x happened same ip addressing use in business #1.

right owner wants tie both locations via vpn , setup , in order make easier access resources between sites need setup domain , forest trust between 2 locations. trust setup purpose of 1) sharing shared folder/directories on file servers on both locations 2) users in business #2 remote desktop server in business #1 use application , 3) sharing printers.

i have read articles regarding trusts not find looking for:

1. what type of trust need setup based on requirements above?
2. given both locations running different os versions , different domain/forest functional levels, not sure if can setup trust.
3. since networks in both locations using 192.168.1.x, need change ip 1 of locations not run issues later when setup vpn tunnel , trust? example should business #1 using 192.168.1.x , business #2 using 192.168.2.x.

before going further, please confirm current ad infrastructure me?  you said “both domains operating separately , within same forest…etc.”, mean 2 domains in 1 forest? said 2 domains’ domain , forest functional level different, according understanding, 2 domains in 2 separate forests. please let me know detailed information 2 domains.

regarding first question, if 2 domains in same forest not need create new trust manually again. default trust relationship have been created automatically when added new domain domain tree or created tree root domain. creating shortcut trust needed. refer article details when create shortcut trust: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc737939(v=ws.10).aspx

if 2 domains locate in 2 separate forests, create 2 way forest trust relationship between 2 forest.

regarding second question, please understand different os versions , domain , forest functional levels not affect creating trust. create different types of trust needed.
