SCSI Tape, Server 2008, and Server 2008 x64
i'm setting new test server, replace older p4 running server 2000.
new hardware includes 2gb ram, gigabyte motherboard, intel core i5 processor.
i've got dat72 drive i'm migrating old server.
the new server ran fine lsi scsi adapter installed, , os found drivers automatically.
when connected tape drive scsi hba, hang on bios splash screen. still boot if remove hba. (it hangs wether tape drive connected or not.)
i tried using adaptec brand hba old server, apparently there no driver support in 64-bit server environment.
so questions are:
1. missing out on falling onto 32-bit version of server 2008? i'm running 2gb ram, don't see need more... (old machine ran great on 256 mb w/ server 2000)
2. there 32-bit pci or pci-express u160 lvd card work in 64-bit environment , costs less $200 (usd)?
3. i've seen sata dat72 drives, better option, connecting straight motherboard?
4. thoughts lsi card? doa?
thanks,
tim d.
hi tim,
for question 1, depends on requirement. if install tape device important using 64 bit system, , if can find driver of lsi scsi adapter windows 2008 32bit system, can choose replace system.
for other questions, mentioned you need contact device manufacturer.
if there further can please let know.
