log onto wsus server, , find folder sql installed in c:\program files\microsoft sql server\mssql.1\ default. under find log folder (should under .\mssql\log) , find errorlog file no extension. should give better idea what's going on, if there's database problem deal with.

failing may need install sql express management studio on machine , connect database see what's going on / correct problem.

did this?

system.exception -- cannot open database "susdb" requested login. login failed.
login failed user 'nt authority\network service'.

any chance patched wsus server kb2720211 or kb2734608?

did (improperly) change password on network service account, or remove it's rights log on?

in general, relevant question this: changed?
