Embed Excel Object in Word as relative, not absolute

i've seen numerous similar threads, can't seem find solution problem:

we have many word documents embed objects excel documents. excel documents referenced in same folder word document.

all of these files on network drive. time time, these files moved 1 server - creates huge problem, if name of networkshare changes. not take forever open word document because it's looking excel files in path doesn't exist, also, once open, have relink objects.

is there way force links relative (ie if in same folder word doc, have no path, file name) , not change?

thanks in advance!

basically, can't.

word's excel links require link fields. link fields use absolute addressing and, unlike other referencing fields, can't embed other fields within them create relative path. workaround use macro, check out solution i've posted at:
