hi,
from problem description, noticed know best practice raid on domain controller.
based on research, noticed information below:
disk space recommendations
at minimum, domain controller requires available free disk space active directory database, active directory log files, sysvol, , operating system. use following guidelines determine how disk space allot active directory installation:
· on drive contain active directory database, ntds.dit, provide 0.4 gigabytes (gb) of storage each 1,000 users. example, forest 2 domains (domain a, domain b), 10,000 , 5,000 users respectively, provide minimum of 4 gb of disk space each domain controller hosts domain , minimum of 2 gb of disk space each domain controller hosts domain b.
· on drive containing active directory log files, provide @ least 500 mb of available space.
· on drive containing sysvol shared folder, provide @ least 500 mb of available space.
· on drive containing windows server 2003 operating system files, run setup, provide @ least 1.25 gb 2 gb of available space.
to prevent single disk failures, many organizations use redundant array of independent disks (raid). domain controllers accessed fewer 1,000 users, can locate 4 components on single raid 1 array. domain controllers accessed more 1,000 users, place log files on 1 raid array , keep sysvol shared folder , database on separate raid array.
the above figures recommendations , should tested in lab environment before deploying active directory , monitored closely in production environment. best practice allow future growth of objects in active directory. more information object growth , database capacity in active directory, see “data store technical reference.”
