Proper way to use hard disks in server 2008

hi, iam planning deploy windows server 2008 enterprise, 64-bit on hp dl380 g5 server 6x146gb scsi hard disks. comment of on 2 approaches:

1. use available hard disks as 1 logical drive configured raid 5, or
2. use first 2 hard disks as logical drive 1 configured raid1+0 , remaining hard disks logical drive 2 configured raid 5

my objective have redundancy/fail-over and the best performance i hard disks.

i leaning towards option 2 as  raid1+0 faster than raid 5 still open suggestions.

appreciate response.

hello jadeemperor,

according experience, prefer option 2. performance consideration, raid1+0 faster raid 5. may use raid1+0 logical driver system driver , rest of 4 hard-disk raid-5 logical driver. kind of configuration, can ensure redundancy/fail-over , best performance.

hope helps.

your potential. our passion.
