Design Issue: Replication to DNS Server on non-Domain Controller?
hello there!
i need quick hand, please. in brief, can make dns server on windows 2003, not domain controller, replica of ad dns?
sounds odd perhaps?
well it's getting rid of legacy best can , consolidating. means change change change , small amount of fudging around edges too! :-)
we migrating offices , data centres @ same time. phased change, our original office lan ip range while, closed. i have decommission our ancient dcs (running 2003 std) have dual dns/dhcp function. new dcs running win2k3 r2 x64 (for trust reasons whilst close down old service running on nt4 domain) , ad-integrated dns.
i need keep old primary dc server (too many named references files on in-house apps), demote form dc, vm it. for dns resolution, lots of machines point statically ip box, rather not have change dns ip our services. if demote old primary dc, can push dns replica new dcs?
thank in advance :-)
neil
hi neil,
thank post.
ad-integrated dns zone cannot replication with non-dc dns server. why want it? mean time there no dc server in site ? vm dc, it's not recommended vm pdc (keep it on physical hardware).
suggest create new vm dc, transfer fsmo other physical dc old primary dc, demote old primary dc, change vm dc ip address old primary dc ip address. here article change dc ip address.
