The server do not boot without having the Win 2k8 DVD

hi group,

first of i’ve apologize bad english. i’m writing germany. not have win srv 2k8 forums here…  ;-). maybe product new?

after raid failure had change 1 hdd oft raid. raid rebuilt successfully, data fine.

but way boot server is, have win 2k8 dvd in dvd-rom. now, familiar message appears: “press key boot cd …” if not win 2k8 starting well, can use server.

if win 2k8 dvd absent, message: “insert proper boot device…”

for me it’s sounds mbr missing or corrupt. (maybe mbr on changed hdd). in former times booted dvd “repair installation part” fix problem “fixmbr”.

there option “repair installation”, if click on that, current win 2k8 partition known able select, tool tells: “you can use tool vista os …”.

to leave dvd @ dvd rom server booting means me workaround.
what have server boot without having dvd?

how can fix mbr issue (is mbr issue?)?

i’m not happy idea use “external mbr” tools.
the configuration of machine is fujitsu siemens  primergy econel 200 s2, 8 gb ram, dual xeon, win 2k8 64 bit installed. application server, our terminal licensing server organization.

ok. out there idea?
i happy response.

greetings germany

michael

hi michael,

it doesn't matter how bad @ english. "tool" communicate each other. besides, not bad @ english, right?

well, firstly, please check bios settings see if have selected proper disk (containing operating system) start from. select right 1 , reboot computer see how goes.

if problem remains, boot windows server 2008 setup media (not windows vista's), , click "repair computer". select proper operating system want repair , in next page, click "command prompt". then, try following methods each @ 1 time , see how goes:

1.    type "bootrec /fixmbr" (without quotations) in command prompt. after operation completes, reboot computer , see how goes.

2.    type " bootrec /fixboot" (without quotations) in command prompt. after operation completes, reboot computer , see how goes.

3.    type " bootrec /rebuildbcd" (without quotations) in command prompt. reboot computer , see how goes.

4.    if see message prompting file missing, can replace file intact ones in setup media command prompt.

for more details these commands, can type "bootrec /?" in command prompt.

if these methods cannot solve problem. well, sorry may need rebuild operating system. last method rescue our computers , recover data on disks.

i hope can help.

best regards,

chang yin
