Error extending virtual disk in storage pools

hi, tried search around else problem couldn't find anything, thought i'd post.

we have 2016 server set in ec2 backup repository, 8tb of disk space.
i'd increase 16tb in size, i've added disks (hdd , ssd) , trying extend virtual disk. when extend 16tb, fails after 10 seconds message, "error extending virtual disk: not supported. activity id: {4a66cb30-7b9c-4a68-88c5-3c9071f48008}".

just check off steps, have:

- added disks themselves
- brought them online , initialized in disk management appear in "physical disks" in server manager -> volumes -> storage pools
- set mediatype hdd/ssd each disk

can suggest why error coming up, or let me know if might doing wrong? time.

i know server 2012 r2 need use required amount of disks extend space. haven't had chance play around server 2016 storage spaces yet check blog post:
