Viewing Child domains in LDAP

hi there,

i have question around viewing child domains root domain via ldap on port 389.

when connecting root domain controller given domain using ldap tool (e.g. adsi edit) on port 389. show objects/containers domain, however, not show child domains. normal functionality? or there way view of child domains see when connecting global catalogue port 3268?

e.g. if root domain "root" , child domains "child1" , "child2" see

dc=root     cn=builtin     dc=child1     dc=child2     cn=users     ... etc

the reason ask have third party piece of software browse given domain tree via ldap on port 389 only, have users in both child1 , child2 domains able view 1 tree. possible? or quering on gc port way view full tree.

all severs windows 2003 running mixture of windows 2000 native and 2003 domain functional levels, forest function level @ windows 2000. rasing our functional levels have impact on this?

any advice appreciated,

cheers

this normal & default adsiedit.msc connect own domain, can connect other domain specifying other domain name format ex cn=server,dc=domain,dc=com

open adsiedit.msc, click on connect & click on advanced tab & specify domain name along credential & gc port no.

gc contains complete information of own domain & partial information of other domain.

i don't think raising functional level here.
