WMI Working One Way Only
hello,
in effort set spiceworks installation i've ran problem wmi can't seem find clear cut answer , i'm hoping gain insight here. i've discovered wmi connections work workstation in domain domain controllers not workstation workstation or domain controllers workstation. not familiar configuration wmi services active on machines i'm working with, windows firewall turned off both dc's , workstations (i've turned them on , enabled no avail) , dcom , rpc services running.
i'm thoroughly stuck on issue can't seem find pertinent information why communication wmi seems one-sided. can connect wmi fine locally on workstation, also.
i on windows server 2003 functional level forest/domain. ad server connecting windows server 2008 r2 , have windows 7 professional 64-bit , windows xp professional (sp3) 32-bit workstations within domain.
the error receive when trying connect domain workstation is;
code = 0x800706ba
the rpc server unavailable
facility = win32
the error receive when trying connecting 1 workstation is;
the rpc server unavailable.
any appreciated.
thanks,
gabe
update: in looking @ logs, i've found more information i'm not sure how decipher pertinent issue.
dcom got error "2147944122" computer workstation1 when attempting activate server:
{8bc3f05e-d86b-11d0-a075-00c04fb68820}
is i'm seeing when i'm trying connect domain controller workstation name , same message when trying connect ip address. instead of computer name showing up, of course, it's ip.
hi,
thank post here.
from description, have issue that
you cannot establish wmi connection when:
dc------> workstations
workstations------> workstations
while works when:
workstations------> dc
workstation------> workstation itself
1. first of all, please utilize rpcping verify rpc connectivity heads workstations when disable firewall? happens if create firewall rules/exceptions (remote administration) on windows 7/windows xp clients?
2. to verify how workstations handle incoming connections, can install network monitor capture traffic when attempt connection remote wmi. workstation receive incoming traffic? respond request?
