Small Office Domain Setup WinServ 2K8

hello all,

i confused requirements domain environment in small office network setup.

this doctor's office existing server machine in p2p configuration.  he has asked me establish domain controller (in own words) can make use of security benefits of ad , security policies.   keen on converting practice paperless record (ehr) office.

he running windows server 2008, , know need promote dc start of (along changing physical configuration of would-be client machines.  but little hung on fqdn part.  so here question:

is absolutely required purchase , register domain ("www.droffice.com" or whatever) in order make work?  he has internet access through at&t, , not run website, , don't think plans run 1 right now.  but , employees need internet access through server machine, possibility of remote access network home or while traveling.

or

can make fqdn , go there?  if so, best practice , naming convention in order keep server access internet.

this seems biggest wall have run on project far, appreciated.

thank in advance,

rattler418

no, not need registered domain name. can name like. give .lcl (for local) rather .com fqdn.  www not part of domain name. code world wide web address.

i live in menangle , have domain called menangle.lcl - no problems.
