I want to share an internet connection, but it won't work

hello.

i have spare wireless router (from when upgraded wifi router/broadband modem combo) want set second wlan upstairs. want attach computer running server 2012 standard, connects internet using wifi, has spare ethernet port on back. plug in , share ethernet connection, , doesn't work. share wifi connection, , doesn't work. use third party software, , works 5 minutes, stops no reason why. try use dhcp scope, , wireless router assigned ip address (i used 172.16.0.xxx start with), unable connect internet through it, main network (the 1 computer uses it's internet connection. there i'm doing wrong, because when share internet connection on ethernet using computer running ubuntu, works fine no additional setup whatsoever. 

if did work, hierarchy go this: 

device -> wifi router -> server 2012 pc -> main wifi router/modem combo -> isp -> website.

much simpler method plug access point directly router extend network. can work through steps here.
