cannot backup active vhd using symantec backup exec 12.5

my server running window 2003 standard , installed virtual server 2005 , symantec backup exec 12.5. vhd store in ibm storage using iscsi. cannot backup anthing when run backup job.

in symantec backup exec 12.5 log
v-79-57344-65233 - aofo: initialization failure on: "vrtsrv::\\vmhost01\msvs?virtual?machine\win server 2003 std". advanced open file option used: microsoft volume shadow copy service (vss).
snapshot provider error (0xe000fed1): failure occurred querying writer status.

writer name: microsoft virtual server, writer id: {76afb926-87ad-4a20-a50f-cdc69412ddfc}, last error: vss writer failed, operation can retried (0x800423f3), state: failed during prepare snapshot operation (8).

and try run "vssadmin list writers" in command prompt, there have 1 item display error message:
writer name: "microsoft virtual server 2005 writer"
state: [8] failed
last error: retryable error

have idea what's problem.

from error message, appears there wrong virtual server 2005 writer on box.

 

in order fix issue, please consider uninstall , re-install virtual server 2005 on problematic server register vss writer.

meanwhile, sorry have little knowledge symantec backup exec. recommend contact vendor of third party backup software check if there known issue when use take backup of vhd file resides on iscsi storage.

 

hope issue resolved soon.
