Packet forwarding / router with one NIC
hello all,
my question this...
unfortunately have 2 routers in network, 1 connects server , misc computers internet, , 1 other.
furthermore, both routers have wireless networks different settings/security, disconnecting 1 not option!
now, being 2 routers, naturally on different subnets.
alas, both routers not have setting static routes, getting subnets communicate proving difficult.
question this: possible configure server act router? job forward packets subnet b ip assigned wan port on second router, , other packets first router internet. , if possible, how?
remember server has 1 network card!
any advice appreciated.
i know how things work under hood, how taught.
any packet coming subnet b it's coming 192.168.0.3 device in subnet a, it's possible router forward packet 192.168.0.3, ie subnet b.
way can see nat/router on b able deliver packet destination host on subnet have routing table entry subnet id nat/router aware of. nat in nat/router not "smart" know subnets behind router b unless you've configured rip or other router table information protocol, retail box store nat/routers not support rip or of them. feature of enterprise class device.
but if got work somehow out of box, gunner said, great. one, curious how set up. i've been dealing routing quite number of years , have never seen this, therefore if have specific step steps on how configured it, please share it.
going suggested bridging internal nat/router b, don't have disable nat on internal nat/router b. matter of fact there no way disable nat on these devices.
to make work, not use wan port on internal nat/router. taking wire nat/router a's ("a" in scenario the nat/router connected isp) switch , connecting internal nat/router b's lan switch completely ignoring wan port.
therefore, occurs @ point connected internal nat/router b's lan switch directly communicate machines on nat/router a's lan.
it's putting switch or hub communications. that's it. , wireless devices on internal nat/router b will communicate nat/routera's network.
you have disable dhcp function on internal nat/router make work, otherwise offering dhcp addresses conflict nat/router's subnet.
as said, i've set numerous times when needed additional access point , there nat/router laying around in closet. it's cheap alternative purchasing dedicated access point, , works charm.
