Orphan Snapshots

i running server 2008 r2 , on last 9 months have had 2 of vms crash , have rebuilt. set new vm same configuration , attached old hard drive. have 2 snapshots, 1 each of vms crashed, haven't been accessed in months , not show in hyper v manager. safe delete these files since don't seem used @ or there method merge these?

the action of creating new configuration causes system lose track of snapshot - knowledge there one.

the action of linking virtual disk loses changes contained in snapshot disk.

at point in time, attempting merge snapshot disk data system cause far more harm (to system in vm).  in end wasted effort , great deal of frustration , panic.
