Hyper-V and Windows 8

hello

i setting home lab environment on hp proliant microserver.  have installed hyper-v 2012 on server , want connect windows 8 desktop.  have enabled the hyper-v feature on desktop, cannot connect hyper-v (nor can ping server, server can ping desktop).  server has single nic ip of 192.168.0.100 , desktop 192.168.0.110 , both in same workgroup.  have enabled remote desktop on server, firewall seems have inbound traffic blocked.

if standard windows 2008 server could enable inbound icmp traffic in advanced firewall, have little experience of windows 2012 core.  how configure firewall allow inbound icmp traffic?  have tried netsh firewall set icmpsetting 8 think command has been deprecated.  or ther reason why can't connect hyper-v on server?

thanks

tony

you have configure firewall on hyper-v server via command line.  here powershell script run against machines ensure remote management capabilities.

# # set-ucshypervremotemgmt.ps1 # # script works on variety of settings easiest done # local machine make remotely manageable management workstation. # ensure server manager remoting enabled configure-smremoting.exe -enable # set firewall rules # enable ping requests in , out set-netfirewallrule –name “fps-icmp4-erq-in” –enabled true set-netfirewallrule –name “fps-icmp6-erq-in” –enabled true set-netfirewallrule –name “fps-icmp4-erq-out” –enabled true set-netfirewallrule –name “fps-icmp6-erq-out” –enabled true # enable remote volume management - firewall rules need set on both # source , destination computers # ***note*** policy must set on system "allow remote access # plug , play interface" # done gpedit.msc locally or gpedit domain policy set-netfirewallrule –name “rvm-vds-in-tcp” –enabled true set-netfirewallrule –name “rvm-vdsldr-in-tcp” –enabled true set-netfirewallrule –name “rvm-rpcss-in-tcp” –enabled true # enable dcom management requests in set-netfirewallrule –name “complusnetworkaccess-dcom-in” –enabled true # enable remote service management set-netfirewallrule –name “remotesvcadmin-in-tcp” –enabled true set-netfirewallrule –name "remotesvcadmin-np-in-tcp” –enabled true set-netfirewallrule –name “remotesvcadmin-rpcss-in-tcp” –enabled true # enable remote event log management set-netfirewallrule –name "remoteeventlogsvc-in-tcp” –enabled true set-netfirewallrule –name “remoteeventlogsvc-np-in-tcp” –enabled true set-netfirewallrule –name “remoteeventlogsvc-rpcss-in-tcp” –enabled true # enable remote scheduled tasks management set-netfirewallrule –name “remotetask-in-tcp” –enabled true set-netfirewallrule –name “remotetask-rpcss-in-tcp” –enabled true # enable windows firewall remote management set-netfirewallrule –name “remotefwadmin-in-tcp” –enabled true set-netfirewallrule –name “remotefwadmin-rpcss-in-tcp” –enabled true # enable wmi management requests in set-netfirewallrule –name “wmi-winmgmt-in-tcp” –enabled true # set services automatically start , start them. set-service -name plugplay -startuptype automatic start-service plugplay set-service -name remoteregistry -startuptype automatic start-service remoteregistry set-service -name vds -startuptype automatic start-service vds # enable remote desktop (get-wmiobject win32_terminalservicesetting -namespace root\cimv2\terminalservices).setallowtsconnections(1,1) | out-null (get-wmiobject -class "win32_tsgeneralsetting" -namespace root\cimv2\terminalservices -filter "terminalname='rdp-tcp'").setuserauthenticationrequired(0) | out-null $srvr = read-host "enter name assign computer:" (get-wmiobject win32_computersystem).rename($srvr) $domain = read-host "enter domain computer should join (you prompted credentials):" add-copmuter -domainname $domain write-host -foregroundcolor yellow "system rebooted." shutdown -r -t 5
know there 1 or 2 commands don't work on windows server core installation.
