DNS access denied
we have 2 windows server 2003 1 being primary , other being domain controller.
recently have been getting lot of w32time system errors on primary server , kerberos (id 4), netlogin (5774 & 5741) , netbt (4321) system errors on dc , userenv (1030 & 1058)
in dns management on primary server dc marked having problem , when clicked on following message
access denied
you not have permission access dns server
to retry connection, either press f5, or on action menu, click refresh.
every thing have found online resolution has been ineffective. i sure use help.
as first dcs seems 1 in unhealthy state, recommend proceeding following:
- make sure both dcs have dns servers
- make sure both dcs have 1 nic card enabled (other nics should disabled) , 1 ip address in use
- make sure public dns servers configured forwarders , not in ip settings of dcs
- make both dcs point second dc primary dns server , first dc have secondary one
- make sure needed ports ad replication opened in both directions. can use portqryui checks: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/584.active-directory-replication-over-firewalls-en-us.aspx
once done, run ipconfig /registerdns and restart netlogon on both dcs (better reboot unhealthy dc). once done, check again. if issues occurs again can consider re-installing dns role on unhealthy dc.
