noob question about DC and DHCP/DNS

*i'm new domains*

on of tutorials online, dhcp , dns installed @ same time server promoted dc.

here's question: if server giving out ip addresses , doing dns (instead of router), how clients reach internet?  do have make sure ip address range same router's?

also, i'm going promote 2nd server dc.  should dc have dhcp , dns roles failsafe?

your internal clients perform recursive dns queries configured dns servers. typically configured in dhcp scope options. domain controllers authoritative own ad dns name space (yourcompany.com) dns queries being made internal name space authoritatively answer clients , provide dns information per dns database. else dns servers not know , if forwarders configured recursive query dns servers ,  and pass dns response bk client. if no forwarders configured should same work internet root hint domain controllers long can internet.

as far dhcp goes can run anywhere want long dhcp scope options valid per network settings, dhcp lease process simple not take resources, , dhcp server not available, goes down, after successful dhcp handshake , lease, client picked valid ip address continue network resources etc.

here dns configuration practices may want check out
