many wsmprovhost.exe processes

on of our windows server 2012 (not r2) servers, finding wsmprovhost.exe processes getting launched , never terminating. to determine why being launched and/or why not terminating, because unless go in , manually terminate them, these servers run out of memory.

here have observed:

  • the full command line is: c:\windows\system32\wsmprovhost.exe -embedding
  • a new process launched every hour.
  • the start time same minute , second after hour every process on same server. each server has different start time, servers within minute of each other. example, on 1 server, every process started @ 6 minutes , 43 seconds after hour; on server start time 7 minutes , 7 seconds after each hour.
  • this seems affect servers running iis.
  • the parent process is: c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k dcomlaunch

can troubleshoot why happening?

thanks,
cam
