Hardware Requirements and VMWare Comparision


i'm having hard time figuring out kind of hw requirements i'd need meet run hyperv on server 2008r2 core installation.  any thoughts?

also, if looking virtualize physical machine, take backups of machine , place them on standby hyperv server, that?

system requirements

review microsoft hyper-v server 2008 r2 information make sure have required hardware , software.

·         supported operating systems: a list of supported guest operating systems can found here.

·         processor: x64 compatible processor intel vt or amd-v technology enabled.
hardware data execution prevention (dep), intel xd bit (execute disable bit) or amd nx bit (no execute bit), must available , enabled.

·         minimum cpu speed: 1.4 ghz; recommended: 2 ghz or faster.

·         ram: minimum: 1 gb ram; recommended: 2 gb ram or greater (additional ram required each running guest operating system); maximum 1 tb.

·         available disk space: minimum: 8 gb; recommended: 20 gb or greater (additional disk space needed each guest operating system).

·         dvd rom drive

·         display: super vga (800 × 600) or higher resolution monitor.

·         other: keyboard , microsoft mouse or compatible pointing device.
note: the actual system requirements vary based on system configuration , hosted guest operating systems.

base on experience, if want set test environment, can normal desktop computer hyper-v host computer. ensure processor support hardware virtualization , can enable hardware virtualization , dep in bios.

 

if want have high performance, should consider model , frequency of cpu, amount of memory, speed of disk.

 

if want migrate physical computer virtual machine, can perform p2v. can perform further research in following forum.
