Migrate a Cluster Wizard 2003 to 2008

hi symon, read through few links regarding wizard , re-using existing storage when upgrading 2003 clustering 2008. piece not explained how existing san storage handled. begin 2003 node seeing assigned luns , corresponding file shares. 2008 node has own witness disk, need visibility luns original 2003 cluster.

microsoft states can migrate settings physical disk resources other quorum resource. however, 2 different clusters should not see same luns. need know right sequence of how present existing storage new 2008 node, cluster migration wizard move resource groups windows 2003 node new 2008 node. should both of these nodes allowed see san storage when cluster migration wizard running.

if not @ point in migration process should new 2008 node allowed see storage, , when should take 2003 files resources off line , un-zone them san. migration wizard move assigned volume , drive letters new 2008 cluster, or put resource groups in place on new server (fail on cluster manager) without moving storage. if not go well, can revert 2003 node after wizard has run on 2008 server?

hi,

when migrating cluster resources windows 2003 cluster windows 2008 if new cluster going use same lun's old cluster need migrate cluster settings windows 2008 , leave resources offline on windows 2008 cluster , when ready switch new cluster need present lun's windows 2008 cluster , mask them windows 2003 cluster. can bring resouces on new cluster online.

if new cluster use new storage need copy/migrate data old storage new storage manually. don't believe cluster migration wizard handles data migration migrates cluster configuration , resource data.

migration between 2 multi-node clusters - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff182337(ws.10).aspx#bkmk_steps_for_migrating - see "complete transition storage: if new cluster use old storage, follow plan making luns or disks inaccessible old cluster , accessible new cluster. if new cluster use new storage, copy appropriate folders , data storage. needed disk access on old cluster, bring individual disk resources online on cluster. (keep other resources offline, ensure clients cannot change data on disks in storage.) needed, on new cluster, use disk management confirm appropriate luns or disks visible new cluster , not visible other servers."
